The CANGO Basic Services Thematic Group was formed in May 2007, by CANGO Network Partners concerned with issues related to the “provision of basic services” in Ethiopia. These issues pertain primarily to water and sanitation (watsan), health, nutrition and HIV/AIDS, though other issues such as education are also considered to fall within the mandate of this group.
The Basic Services Thematic Group is first and foremost an information sharing body. The members agree to learn from each other’s best practices and to work together on improving their development approaches, eventually reducing programme duplication and promoting synergies. The group believes that the implementation of certain projects in consortium will allow the members to achieve this goal through the design and implementation of specific activities.
The group has recently finalised its “charter” and is presently looking at programme approaches that can serve their joint interests.
The Basic Services Thematic group presently includes the following members:
